Hi! I’m Santiago Cruz. Well, I’m not. I chose this pen name as a nod to one of my favorite literary characters of all time, Santiago from The Old Man and the Sea. It is also a reference to my birthplace, Santa Cruz.

I’m a fan of the mundane, and find a great deal of joy in writing about people living through the most ordinary of circumstances. While I’m still trying to find my voice as a writer, I am drawn to simple language and ‘say it as it is’ wording. I am fairly playful with themes and motifs, and don’t actually agree that a story needs to have an arc, or even a point.

If there is an arc that matters, it is the reader’s arc. How you felt before reading the work and how you feel having read it. I’m figuring out what kind of writer I am, and will keep posting my work here and on other platforms along the way.
